The long waiting Eegungun Festival is afoot as Great Dignitaries (Local and Diaspora) are set to partake in the Festival  where The Ancestral Pride Foundation is also a Sole Partnership.

The Festival which is expected to last for about 4-months, started since on Friday with the powerful and unique voice of the ‘Agan’ that have been heard across the city of Otta and its environs with heavy traditional vibration to Pray for the progress of the kingdom and its dwellers.

The Festival in which different Clan/Household in Ota that have the Egungun background will Host their Guest to feast with them as they Celebrate the Festival. The Egungun (Masquerade) of each Family and Household will be in the town to dance and showcase different performances.

The Olota of Ota, HRM Oba (Prof.) Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege declared the event open and also welcome everyone, he said “we welcome everyone to this epoch making event. This is our cultural inheritance and as such, we have to rally round it. Ota Eegungun festival is one of the most celebrated festivals in the world and the result is in the number of crowd witnessed here today. I want to implore all sons and daughters of Ota, as well as tourists and corporate organizations to participate in the festival because, doing so will have a toll effect on the immediate economy of the town.”

The King also added that “The state government should see the festival as a means of increasing the internally generated revenue which comes from the Local government through tourism and patronage of local contents.”

Speaking with the Founder of the Ancestral Pride Foundation Oluwo (Dr.) Fasola Faniyi, he said “Eegungun is an avenue to communicate with the spirit of our ancestors, so that our prayers and wishes can be answered faster when we appease and celebrate egungun.”
